Silk awarded at Newport Beach and the USA Film Festival

The USA Film Festival announced the Winners of the 35th Annual National Short Film & Video Competition. Chosen from more than 500 U.S. entries, the winners included:
First Place Fiction – Native Boy (Henry Roosevelt);
First Place Non-Fiction – Nine to Ninety (Alicia Dwyer);
First Place Animation – Strange Fruit (Neal Sopata);
Special Jury Award – Ice (Anthony Tarsitano), Ojala (Ryan Velasquez), Cicada Princess (Mauricio Baiocchi);
Festival Awarded Prizes – 
Best If Used By (fiction) (Aemelia Scott), 
Old Man (animation) (Leah Shore), 
SILK (fiction) (Catherine Dent), 
The Captain (fiction) (Nash Edgerton & Spencer Susser), 
The Procession (fiction) (Robert Festinger),
Do Not Duplicate (documentary) (Jonathan Mann & Sean McGing),
A Little Something on the Side (fiction) (Stephen Tobolowsky).

This year marks the 43rd Anniversary of the Academy-qualified festival, which has awarded more than
$250,000 in cash prizes. The 2013 National Jury included Yale University Professor of Cinema Sandra Luckow, actor/producer Denise Crosby and writer/producer Paul Marcarelli.
